Mission & Vision

Problem

The church has a burnout issue. Ministry leaders and cross-cultural workers are leaving their field of service at astronomical rates. According to studies, 70% of cross-cultural workers leave the mission field for preventable reasons, while 50% of ministry leaders feel unable to meet the demands of their calling. These realities result in organizational mistrust and personal trauma.

Solution

ThriveOn provides a holistic approach to wellness anchored in a Christian perspective for cross-cultural workers, ministry leaders, and their families.

How

ThriveOn's holistic wellness approach creates opportunities for rest, reflection, and renewal within a safe community. Our programs are designed to give participants time and space to unwind, share their stories, and anticipate next steps in their journey.

Ask (General)

ThriveOn's passion is to reduce the number of preventable losses among ministry leaders and cross-cultural workers, and we cannot do this alone. We believe thriving happens in community.

Our Story

ThriveOn Wellness Retreat Center began as a dream and vision of Cynthia and Ron Barkley. God designed Cynthia with an empathetic heart, sensitive spirit and the call to encourage others.

While serving cross-culturally, Cynthia listened and walked along side others in their life’s journey.  She also experienced the normal challenges of living outside of one’s home culture and experienced personal family trauma and grief.

While working cross-culturally, Cynthia was tasked with planning team retreats – in which team building, compassion fatigue, burnout, self-care, and soul care were discussed.  This sparked the passion for encouraging those who serve as she noticed within herself and others the sometimes struggle to thrive and flourish in the work.

Cynthia and her family returned to the US after over 15 years of working with governmental and non-governmental organizations.  She went back to school to understand and learn how to best help others.  During this time, she began serving cross cultural workers around the world, and the dream for a place set aside for cross-cultural workers to rest, reflect, and renew was awakened.

Ron also has a heart for the nations and leading and teaching others.  He has developed programs and organizations and led teams cross-culturally for over 30 years.

As Cynthia and Ron began to pray together about the next chapter of their life and how they could together encourage others, ThriveOn Wellness Retreat Center was birthed.

Many dear friends encouraged, prayed, and brainstormed with Cynthia and Ron as the dream began to move from thoughts, to something on paper and finally to reality.
